T-Mobile SyncUP Tracker combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and T-Mobile’s nationwide network to help people keep track of important belongings such as bikes, luggage, backpacks, and pets.
The core challenge was enabling secure sharing of tracking data between a device owner and trusted guests such as spouses, partners, or family members. While sharing sounds simple, carrier constraints, privacy requirements, and cross-platform limitations made direct contact-based sharing impossible. I led the design of a device-centric sharing model that balanced security, regulatory compliance, and ease of use, allowing users to control access without exposing personal data. The result was the first shareable tracker experience on T-Mobile, designed to scale across networks while maintaining user trust.
